Privacy Policy
Short version: Exparo collects nothing. It is a local-first text expander and snippets manager. There is no server, no account, no analytics, no trackers and no ads. Your snippets, usage statistics and settings never leave your device.
What we collect
Nothing. Exparo declares no internet permission, so the app process cannot send or receive data at all. Because there is no network path, there is nothing to log, sell or breach on a server — there is no server.
- No accounts or sign-in. No names, emails or identifiers are collected.
- No analytics, crash SDKs, advertising SDKs or trackers of any kind.
- Snippets, folders, favorites, statistics and settings are stored only on your device.
- Backups are plain files (JSON or CSV) that you create and control.
- Uninstalling Exparo removes every snippet, statistic and preference.
The typing aid (accessibility service)
To expand snippets while you type in other apps, Exparo provides an accessibility service called the “Exparo typing aid”. This is how it behaves:
- It observes text changes only to detect your triggers in the field you are typing in. Observed text is kept in a small in-memory window (a few hundred characters) and is never stored, logged or transmitted.
- Password fields are skipped outright.
- When you tap Insert, Exparo replaces the trigger with your snippet text directly in the field — the system clipboard is never touched, so there is nothing to restore.
- You can enable or disable the service at any time in Android Settings. Exparo keeps working inside its own app (editor, search, copy) without it.
Permissions Exparo uses, and why
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Accessibility service (typing aid) | Detects your triggers in the field you are typing in and inserts the snippet. Memory-only, password fields skipped, toggleable in Settings. |
| Input method (Snippet Keyboard) | Opt-in keyboard for banking and payment apps that block accessibility services. Used only when you switch to it. |
| Display over other apps / floating bubble | Shows the expansion pill and the optional manual bubble over other apps. |
| Foreground service (special use) | Keeps the typing aid alive reliably on aggressive devices. |
| Notifications | Shows the typing-aid status and undo after an expansion. Optional. |
| Vibrate | Satisfying haptic tick when a snippet inserts. Optional. |
Exparo explicitly removes the internet permission from its manifest, and excludes its database from cloud backup and device transfer — the local-only promise is enforced technically, not just stated here.
Purchases
The optional one-time Pro upgrade is processed entirely by Google Play. Exparo never sees your payment details. Purchase validation happens on-device through the standard Play Billing library. Google's own privacy policy applies to the purchase flow.
Children
Exparo collects no data from anyone, including children. It is a general-purpose utility with no age-gated content.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new “last updated” date, and material changes will be noted in the app or Play listing.
